It was a slow start today on account of the monthly staff meeting, but now I'm back at my desk. Here's some of today's business:
- Received a favorable report from a former music faculty member about the observation station on the second floor. Credit doesn't really go to me for this one, but Gail says it's good to put this stuff in writing.
- Activated FA video lab profiles for two A-S200 classes
- Uploaded my stats dump processor to SharePoint after incorporating some newly-learned PivotTable techniques
- Took care of a variety of odds and ends, including new e-reserves and a few equipment set-ups

Spoke too soon
There's a registration confirmation process that I didn't know about earlier. I'm back to regular business, then.
Starting IRIS training today
This should be interesting. It's all online, which could be troublesome. It's not unusual for me to get pulled away from my desk to assist patrons, so I hope the modules won't time out on me.

Slow start today - doctor appointment
I just finished the first version of my bag label maker. It's on SharePoint.
- Posted a news board out at the desk near the entrance to the Media Center. It'll be good for spotlighting popular items, for example: this week, MUS266 students will be using the "Share the Music" CDs pretty heavily.
- Made a second media center map with reversed orientation. I feel both maps are necessary since one's perspective is different when outside the Media Center as opposed to within it.
- Finished up the first demonstrable version of the stats dump processor and submitted it for testing. Here's hoping it works on someone else's computer!

Little things, March 24th
- Updated patron registration methods, specifically moving off of social security numbers and incorporating the new institution id creation system for special borrowers, reciprocal college students, and BCTCS students
- Digitized a few records and a DAT tape and experimented with new noise reduction processes
- Just wrote a little spreadsheet that automatically generates book express bag labels based on the destination that you pick from a drop down menu. It'll be in my SharePoint folder soon.

Work in progress: stats database processing
Seems like the process of importing dumped stats database data into Excel is frustrating folks. I have a solution: a spreadsheet that automatically updates itself with newly-dumped data. I'm going to polish it up a bit and let the other branches take a look at it.
Recent works
Here is a brief list of things I worked on prior to the start of this blog:
- Uploaded some homegrown office productivity projects to Sharepoint
- Updated second floor maps to present correct call number ranges
- Designed media center map to help students better locate different collections
- Updated the old recital database to include recently acquired recitals
- Began collaborating with Kerri Baunach to develop the process to integrate recital data into Infokat
- Developed a much faster way to digitize cassette tapes and records by better harnessing the processing power of my audio engineering software.
I'm off to lunch now; I'll post more later.

Begin recording
Here I will describe the things I am working on in the Fine Arts Library. I feel this will help raise awareness of the effort that goes in to keeping this place running well with a pleased patronage.
